Kaziranga Wildlife
Kaziranga National Park is one of the most well-known tourist destination in Assam, covering an area of 430 sq.km. Declared world heritage site, the Kaziranga National Park is the natural habitat of the one-horned rhinoceros. This vivid mosaic of habitats wet and dry, plain and hills, forests and grasslands supports numerous plant and animal species which include elephants, sloth bears, tigers, leopard cats, jungle cats, hog badgers, capped langurs, hoolock gibbons, pigs, jackals, porcupines, pythons, buffaloes, Indian bisons, swamp deer, sambhars and hog deer from very close quarters. During winter various types migratory birds are also seen here.
Kaziranga which is the habitat of various wildlife species consists of sheer forest, tall elephant grass, rugged reeds, marshes and shallow pools. Kaziranga is a Biosphere Reserve with the largest, unspoilt grassland, tall grasses cover 41 percent and short grasses cover 11 percent of Kaziranga, with open jungle extending across another 29 percent, swamps 4 percent, rivers and water bodies 8 percent and plain sand 6 percent. Major Attractions of Kaziranga: One-horned Rhinoceros, Elephant, Sloth bears, Leopard cats, Hog badgers, Capped langurs, Porcupines, Pythons, Buffaloes, Indian bison, Swamp deer, Sambhars and Hog deer.
Kaziranga has 4 ranges namely Bagori Range(Western range), Kohora Range(Central range), Agoratoli Range(Eastern range) and Burapahar Range. All ranges are equally scenic consist of the different natural surrounding.
Kohora Range(Central range): It is the main entrance of the park. Most of the accommodations and commercial centres are available near this range. Jeep safari and Elephant safari both are possible for this range.
Bagori Range(Western range): It is another best range to watch animals and avifauna inside the park. It is located at a distance of 15 km from the central range.
Agoratoli Range(Eastern range): It is the most beautiful and largest range of the park. Jeep Safari is available to explore this beautiful range. Entry gate of Eastern range is 25km away from the entrance of the Kohora range. In this range, you can observe large number of birds like geese, waders, pelicans, eagles etc.
